Typical usage of Java programming language

Android is a Java-based platform, which makes Java one of the most commonly used programming languages, allowing for the development of mobile applications. Moreover, Java frameworks, such as FX and Swing, are used to create graphical interfaces in desktop applications. Java is also used while creating websites, wherein popular frameworks are Spring Boot (including Spring MVC) and JSF.

Spring Data Repository is used in order to develop the back-end of an application. It facilitates access to data gathered in both SQL and non-SQL databases. There is a wide range of available Java programming tools facilitating and expediting project development – including integrated programming tools (such as: IntelliJ IDEA and Eclipse), software development automation tools (Maven, Gradle), continuous integration tools (i.e. Jenkins and Bamboo) or version control systems, i.e. Git or SVN.

Why You Should Choose Java Development?

Programming has become an essential part of many company operations due to the ever-growing centralized nature of IT as a full-scale service. Building intelligent applications starts by choosing the right programming language dependent on the type of application you need. It could be a mobile app with a sophisticated back-end, a game, web development or even a firmware.

Which programming language will be the best for your project?

The type of programming language will depend on the exact function that you are looking to execute. Here are a few programming languages that you should consider.

Python

This general purpose Object-Oriented Programming is useful for web application development and is becoming increasingly popular for such functions as cloud computing, data mining and some Graphical User Interface applications.

JavaScript

Popular with web and front-end developers, this is one of the layered web and scripting languages and allows you to create complex and interactive content on your website.

C++

Quite popular among developers of games, embedded firmware, system applications, and drivers, it packs a great degree of abstraction across various operating systems. Is has also great support of usage low level operational system functions.

Java

Probably the most popular programming language when it comes to development, Java is compatible with every other platform thanks to the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) which converts bytecode into native machine code. It is supported by the widest array of devices and OSs of any language and is efficient for app, server and back-end creation.

Java stands out because it is not only easy to learn but also because its development environment is free and applications can be tested across a wide array of OSs and applications. Through the built-in JVM located within the almost ubiquitous Java Runtime Environment (JRE on OS bins), you don’t have to invest in an expensive and unnecessary compiler. The JRE is compatible with most PCs, Macs, UNIX and Linux computers, and smartphones, meaning most types of applications are possible with Java development.

Java offers an array of advantages including:

Stability: Even Java code that you wrote two decades ago will still run with ease on any JVM. Thus, you don’t have to invest in expensive retooling every once in a while, but remember that sometimes it is necessary. In this case, it is worth to consider outsourcing of java development.

Robustness: At the core of Java is native Object-Oriented Programming, meaning your data and object classes don’t have to reference anything outside of themselves.

Excellent API: Java’s class library is simple enough to learn (contains only 50 keywords) but has thousands of classes and tens of thousands of methods to carry out various functions, therefore you can develop and test your ideas as you move along.

Many other software development environments and tools are themselves written in Java, which is itself an advantage. These include Eclipse and IntelliJ IDEA.

Java for Your Back-End

With Java you can integrate both your front-end and back-end easily, and with other applications that are compatible with the JRE. Through Java Database Connectivity (JDBC), you can connects your app into multiple databases at the same time, and scale the entire operation, from mobile to web and enterprise.

You may not have the technical expertise to build and deploy apps in Java yourself, and in such cases outsourcing of Java developers is always a wise alternative. Not only does it lower your overall development and testing costs, but you also have the advantage of having an expert service reducing the time spent, from conceptualization and beta testing to deployment. With a remote outsourcing team, all aspects of project management are taken care of, provided that communication with team leaders is enabled. You can focus on research documentation as the outsourced team works concurrently to bring your vision to life in the shortest time possible.

You are probably wondering why I’m wearing the Gouden 11 T-shirt and what Gouden 11 means?

To answer your questions, I will start from the beginning. Gouden 11 is an online game based on a popular model where participants create a team that consists of actual football players, and get points for their performance. The core application consists of: player rankings, team edition, application for administrators, etc. The Game allows importing data from third party providers (Infostrada Sports, Global Sports Media). This popular online game was developed by the JCommerce programmers, and I was in the development team. Because of that, I received the T-shirt from our Belgian Client – De Persgroep – originator and principal of the game.

Polish Java nad PHP Developers in Belgium

The trip to Belgium was a perfect opportunity to visit business premises of the Customer; to meet people we cooperate with, and see the differences between our lives. During the flight we had a chance to admire unforgettable views. At the airport, we were picked up by a delegation, who took us to the business premises in Asse. On the spot we were introduced to everyone, and then we concentrated on work. However, the day of excitement didn’t end. In the evening, our Belgian friends took us to a local beer degustation. Next, curious and full of positive energy, we decided to explore the city.

The next day we had a chance to see how the real Belgian life looks like. We have learnt that between 9 and 18 cities are practically deserted, because residents spend the entire day at work. Moreover, the majority of places we wanted to visit were closed in the evening. We were disappointed for a while, but De Persgroep took care of interesting entertainment. Our colleagues took us for go-karts, where we could actively rest after the struggles of programming in JAVA and PHP.

Time passes relentlessly and the springtime toil and sweat of the .NET team during the Silesia Marathon and later JCommerce running camp has surely went into oblivion as we already have a new autumn season of challenges and sport events ahead of us.

This time my choice fell on Brussels, which we currently associate not only with the European Union, but also recognize as an important business point on a map. We base the cooperation with our Belgian Clients on availability of resources and fulfilling technical requirements as well as creating well-functioning teams, which become a part of the Client’s crew. We achieve this not only by taking care of continuous communication improvement, but also by increasing amount of integration, which originates in a mutual realization of interests and posing oneself new challenges.

This year Brussels Marathon was an opportunity to meet and discuss the current cooperation, projects being carried out and our future plans. This time it was a double challenge. I was supported and cheered by two of our Clients – totally different from one another in a view of technology (.NET and JAVA), company’s size and the way they manage their projects. With a great dose of curiosity they awaited my appearance and, what was the most motivating, they were planning to follow and watch me on the route. Having known their expectations regarding the quality of our services and projects, I had no choice but to approach the subject the best I could and my preparation allowed me to (here always lies the great unknown :D), and just confirm our high class. The beautiful, sunny weather and tactically well-played run let me reach my personal record and good looks for photos during and after the run.

Furthermore, I think that each member of JCommerce teams has done a great job this year, and every day, without exception, we try to implement the idea of Team Extension in our projects for Customers from abroad, which has a single aim – WE ARE A TEAM.

A lot of thanks also for my photographer and Technical Director – Jarek for his support and help before, during and after the run!

Every football team in Europe dreams of qualifying for the prestige Champions League tournament. It is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world and the most prestigious club competition in European football. The final of the 2011 tournament was the most-watched UEFA final to date, as well as the most watched annual sporting eventworldwide that year, drawing 178.7 million television viewers. What is the success story related to the 16 football clubs, out of almost hundreds of thousands in Europe, which are able to qualify to this most important football competition once per year?

What does the paragraph above have to do with IT business?

Let me try to prove my hypothesis- Doing IT business is like participating a Champions League tournament… by providing a thesis in the example below:

Since the beginning of this year (January 2012) we have been focusing to prepare ourselves for participating in the biggest Mobile Conference in Europe called Apps World 2012.
As an IT Company we deciding to join the most influential event in Europe related to mobile industry, where top market leaders from all over the world included: developers, mobile marketers, mobile operators, device manufacturers, platform owners and industry professionals are meeting in one place, once per year: at Earls Court 2 in London!

I personally believe that there are a lot of common factors when a football club is preparing for the Champions League tournament and IT Company is preparing for attending the most crucial event in the IT industry.

If you ever watch a football team interview before the Champions League game, you can always hear the following words showing up in the statements:
Prestige, confrontation, positioning, knowledge & experience exchange, bitter defeat, mobilization, strategy, challenges, harnessing our own stereotypes, fight, and many more…

It means that we, people are not so far away from each other, no matter what the industry, social status or any other differentiating factor is.

While attending the Apps World 2012, we felt that we are there rather small (with services offering, scale of product influence), when comparing with brands like: Google, Apple, Facebook, Samsung, etc. but on other hand, we had chance to make live interaction with them, try to see what their good and weak sides are, how they are preparing their business model and long term strategy. But even if you stand in front of your competitor acting as Dawid meeting Goliath, and your chances to win anything seem very low, there is a glimmer of hope. Because all the pressure is put on your “enemy” you do not feel any prejudice and paradoxically you can win even more than you might have expected before.

We spent some very busy time during those 2 days of exhibiting at Earls Court 2 in London (See some selected pictures below). We met a lot of interesting people (hundreds of business cards exchanged), had some nice brainstorm discussions with business owners and also shared our knowledge and industry approach with workshop attenders on panel discussion: “In-House app building versus working with vendors, and pre-packaged solutions”. We gained a lot of fresh inspiration how to handle security (in the development process) and how to monetize the mobile applications. We also had a chance to review and focus on our core mobile and web based solutions. We were being asked about dedicated solutions, resources availability and technology focus.

We were surprised when, at the first day of exhibition, we saw two project leaders from our current Belgian Client (this year we developed together top sports applications such as: Tour de France, Olympic Games or Gouden11).
They decided to attend Apps World event to get an industry update and meet us there as a partner to share their experience with prospects visiting our stand (#65) and explain to them the near-shore cooperation model (focusing on team extension mode).

The idea of entitling my blog post: “Doing IT business is like participating a Champions League tournament…” has its beginnings in watching a Champions League game: Arsenal London – Olympiakos Pireus (on the Emirates Stadium in London). We have been invited by our Belgian Client to go out for a match on Wednesday evening (just after the 2nd day of exhibition), 3th of October and integrate with each other watching an incredible football performance LIVE!
Doing IT business is really similar to the Champions League tournament. If you focus on the top things, you head to get the top Clients, top projects and top IT knowledge. But it also goes in the same direction with the local league. If your ambition and carrie goal is to win only the local league, you will become what you deserve, like in the Ben Howard’s song “The Fear”.

And the last important conclusion:
If you would like to join the Champions League tournament and win the main award later on, please remember that your whole team needs to put their hearts in the desire to fight for IT; doing IT alone will be useless…

JCommerce experienced the honor of creating a website and mobile application, presenting live coverage and results of this race.

The service is the classic information application made in Java technology, which uses an external data provider (http://infostradasports.com ).

Used technologies (backend): Java, Spring 3.1 (MVC Cache), SimpleXML, Jackson

Used technologies (frontend): HTML 5, CSS 3, Javascript, jQuery (Templates), JSON

Website and mobile application for Tour de France

Due to the slow response times from servers provider, there has been applied local cache layer, which allowed us to obtain an effect of lightness and high responsiveness of the user interface. We achieved it by the use of AJAX technology. For this purpose, the user interface has been separated from the data layer using the REST interface, it keeps simple description of the structure of the information used. Easy configuration and appropriate architecture allows to easily enrich the application with additional language options – provided in the way that the data provider supports the selected language. Currently, the application operates in three environments – French-speaking, Dutch and Belgian.

The service is part of hln.be – Het Laatste Nieuws – numbering in the Flemish liberal newspaper which fills its columns mainly treating the materials on current events, local issues and sport. Editor of the De Persgroep, owner of Progressive De Morgen.

Tour de France is not the only web and mobile application we delivered in relation to upcoming sports events this year. We are already developing for the same Client web and mobile apps for the Olympic Games in London 2012 which are about to start.
